McLean Community Foundation (MCF) Reaches Out to Local Charitable Community

MCF announces grant applications being accepted now through September 2003

McLean, VA - July 8, 2003 - the McLean Community Foundation is now accepting grant proposals for its Fall 2003 funding cycle, which will be reviewed by Trustees in October. The Foundation is the charitable arm of the McLean Citizens Association and provides grants for projects that actively serve the citizens of McLean in the areas of civic endeavors, the arts, environment, education and social services. The Foundation is entering its 24th year of helping worthy groups in McLean receive seed money or challenge grants for projects benefiting the community.

The McLean Community Foundation has awarded grants to community organizations totaling nearly $800,000. Some examples of recent grants include:

SHARE, Inc - The Foundation funded the purchase of a used truck for $12,500 for SHARE to deliver food, furnishings and clothing throughout the community. SHARE was founded in 1969 and works with McLean churches to assist local families who have fallen on hard times.

Alzheimer's Family Day Center - MCF donated $5,150 to provide new recliners and sofas for the comfort of the seniors who spend their days at the Chesterbrook Presbyterian Church.

Falls Church-McLean Children's Center - A $16,000 challenge grant was awarded in November 2003 to fully equip a new classroom for two-year olds at the Lemon Road Elementary School. Completion of the classroom will be this summer.

Pimmit Run Stream Valley Map - A grant of $ 3,000 was given to Fairfax Trails and Streams for the first historic and environmental mapping of the Pimmit Run Stream Valley area, which was completed in May, 2002. The map outlines the path of the Pimmit Trail and includes numerous points of historic interest. Proceeds from map sale go to support the work of Fairfax Trails and Streams.
