MCLEAN COMMUNITY FOUNDATION AWARDS GRANTS TO SHARE, CHURCHILL SCHOOL PTA AND LANGLEY HIGH SCHOOL PTA
McLean, VA., April 21, 2006 -- The McLean Community Foundation (MCF), charitable arm of the McLean Citizens Association, approved grants totaling $9,500 in their most recent 2006 funding cycle.
SHARE, Inc. - In 2002 MCF granted SHARE, Inc. the funds to purchase a used truck for delivery of furnishings, clothes and food to people in the McLean area who had fallen on hard times. Since then the truck was vandalized, and MCF gave SHARE a grant of $1,500 to repaint the truck.
Churchill Road Elementary School PTA - The Churchill Road Elementary School PTA has established an Outdoor Odyssey Program to create outdoor classroom areas on the grounds of the school to enrich and extend indoor classroom lessons. Students, working in partnership with teachers, will develop environmental responsibility and awareness and learn to promote sustainable use of resources. MCF provided a $2,000 seed money grant and another $5,000 towards the purchase of a permanent greenhouse to give students an earlier start in subsequent planting seasons.
Langley High School PTSA - For two consecutive years, MCF has helped the Langley High School teachers and parents sponsor Ethics Day for high schools seniors with a grant of $1,000.
In 2005, MCF paid the second installment of $25,000 to the McLean Volunteer Fire Department for a new heavy duty rescue vehicle. MCF also awarded grants to the McLean Project for the Arts ($5,000) and McLean Trees Foundation ($1,000) for a veteran's memorial at McLean High School.
